In the heart of Hickory, North Carolina, lives a woman whose quiet strength and boundless love have become the heartbeat of a growing movement. Lynn Jones, founder of Spread Kind Hearts, INC, didn’t set out to start a nonprofit organization—but when her granddaughter made one selfless decision, the course of their family’s life—and their community—changed forever.

It all began when Lynn’s granddaughter, Madilynn, made an extraordinary birthday wish. Instead of celebrating her 10th birthday with cake and gifts, she asked if she could spend the day feeding unsheltered and homeless individuals in the Hickory area. Inspired by her pure heart and deep compassion, the Jones family quickly mobilized to make that wish a reality—serving hot meals and offering comfort to neighbors in need.

That single act of love planted the seed that became Spread Kind Hearts, INC.

Built on Love, Grown by Community

Lynn, with her unwavering faith and heart for service, knew this could be more than a one-time event. What started as a single day of kindness quickly blossomed into a community movement. Alongside her family and a dedicated group of close friends, Lynn built an outreach team rooted in faith, trust, and shared values. Together, they committed to hosting local fundraisers, clothing drives, meal distributions, and collaborative service projects in Hickory and beyond.

More than a nonprofit, Spread Kind Hearts, INC is a legacy—a living example of what happens when love takes the lead. And Lynn is proud to be sharing this journey not only with Madilynn, but with her other grandchildren, too—teaching each of them what it means to serve, to give, and to be a light in someone’s darkness.

“This isn’t just for today,” Lynn says. “This is for tomorrow—for every generation that follows. We’re building something that will outlive us, and that starts with family.”

Today, Spread Kind Hearts, INC is one of the most active family-led nonprofit organizations in Hickory, NC, with outreach steadily growing across Catawba, Caldwell, Burke, and Alexander Counties. Lynn remains at the helm, guided by the same humility and grit that started it all—rain or shine.

With every coat handed out, every meal served, and every neighbor met with dignity, Lynn and her team are fulfilling a mission born from a child’s wish and sustained by a community’s love.
