Compassion in Action with Spread Kind Hearts, Hickory NC

In Hickory, North Carolina, kindness doesn’t wait for good weather—and neither do we.

Winter 2024, Spread Kind Hearts held one of its most meaningful community outreach events to date: feeding the homeless and those in need across our region. What started under blue skies quickly turned into a day of frigid rain and freezing temperatures. But even as the weather shifted, our mission stayed the same—to serve with love, no matter the conditions.

Volunteers rallied with determination, handing out hot meals, warm drinks, and weather-appropriate clothing from the tailgates of trucks and trunks of cars. Coats were soaked, fingers were cold, but spirits stayed high as the community came together to lift up our most vulnerable neighbors.

With every meal passed and every warm bag delivered, we didn’t just meet a need—we made a connection. We reminded our neighbors that they’re not forgotten, not invisible, and never alone.

“The rain didn’t stop us,” said one of our volunteers. “Because hunger doesn’t stop, cold doesn’t stop—and neither does kindness.”

At Spread Kind Hearts, we believe that small acts of love, especially in the toughest moments, can light the way for healing and hope. This event was just one example of how we are committed to reaching into our community—not only when it’s easy, but especially when it’s hard.
